Prayers for the Persecuted

"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 5:10

Christians in the United States often talk about how the church is being persecuted by the secular society, but rarely are our liberties impeded in the extreme ways of our brothers and sisters overseas. They experience this threat daily because they refuse to deny Christ as Lord. I'd like to ask you to join me in keeping them lifted in prayer. Their sacrifices and sometimes martyrdom should not be forgotten or neglected. Instead, we should pray for them as often as possible, and be strengthened by the iron clad faith they exude.

This week please join me in praying for:

Homeless and estranged Iraqi Christians - April 21, 2014

Iraqi Christians are facing more and more persecution. Amid fear of violence, kidnapping, and being killed, they are now being forced to flee from their homes out of fear of sectarian violence (violence between different sects of a particular ideology or religion in a community). Please pray for the well being of the Iraqi Christians. That the Holy Spirit comfort them during this time of great fear and unrest, that the families be shielded from harm, and that those who have already been displaced find a home. Also, please pray for those who are doing the persecuting . . . that their hearts be softened and through whatever means necessary, they put their faith in Jesus Christ. Missionary arrested in North Korea - February 19, 2014

Australian missionary John Short, 75, was arrested by North Korean authorities on Sunday in the nation's capital. Their charge against him was that he was carrying "illegal materials." North Korea is widely known as the world's worst persecutor of Christians. Please pray for the safe return of Mr. Short, that the Spirit gives him strength during this very difficult time, for his family members, and for the softening of the hearts of the North Korean leadership. Christians in Nigeria - January 8, 2014

Following a suspected Islamic gunmen attack on a Christian village, at least 30 people were killed. Please pray for the safety and strength of Christians in this area. Also, for the softening of the hearts of those who committed these atrocities.
